Story

Katie Randich

Katie Randich grew up in Jacksonville, Fl.  She was taught to sew by her grandmother and home ec teacher, Sue Chang, while she was in high school.  She took a hiatus from her craft while she went off to college to swim and get her degree in teaching at Gardner-Webb University.   As she taught kindergarten and 1st grade in both South Carolina and Florida, she began to notice something was missing from her life, a purpose.   After getting saved and baptized at the Church of Eleven22, she embarked on her first mission trip to Panama where she quickly realized her purpose.

It was on this trip where the Lord called her to put one of her greatest gifts into action, sewing. Katie knew by being the hands of Jesus and clothing the girls in love and hope she could make a global impact. She discovered that her gifts could be put to use by not only providing dresses to girls in Panama but also supplying them with fabric and sewing machines so that they may provide for themselves and their families.  Katie’s mission also extends to the shores of the U.S. where she looks to give girls and women the ability to learn this trade.  Her future goals are to not only send dresses to Panama, but Uganda, Costa Rica and Jamaica as well.

When Katie is not sewing and pursuing this ministry she loves spending time with her daughter, Emma and husband, Anthony.

I love this ministry and mission! So blessed to listen to the call God placed on my heart. Fun fact about me….growing up my nickname was alfie. My swim coach gave it to me and it stuck. Fast forward to now and I realize God had His hand in that. Nothing is by accident!

This past June I met alfie on a mission trip to Panama. Little did I know what I was getting myself into! Throughout the trip she discussed a vision she had and I told her I would help in anyway I could. Since then, I have had the opportunity to be a part of helping those in need and teaching them they are loved and valued. I am glad to be a part of this mission.

Director

My name is Marianne Kosonen. Originally I am from beautiful country of Finland, but have been living in Jacksonville, Florida since 1996. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been passionate about sewing and creating unique items. Partnering with Alfies gives me an opportunity to inspire, motivate, Educate and     Encourage others here in the States to learn how to sew and create dresses, purses and other items, as well as help less fortunate mothers and daughters to learn needed skills how to provide to their families by creating these items in Panama and other countries. It has been a great blessing for me to work with Alfies. I am looking forward to sharing the love of God to communities as well as educating and providing needed materials and equipment to the people in need. Together we can make amazing things to happen!

I am passionate about global and local missions as well as spreading God’s love. I have a heart to help others and that’s what led me to helping with alfies. It was not planned, but I wanted to be His hands and show His love by helping. I knew alfie had a big heart and was passionate about this ministry, so what better way to show love. I am thankful to be a part of this ministry and can’t wait to see how the Lord will move.

The reason I have always wanted to make dresses….

My favorite dress as a child was a very simple dress with a smock made by my mother and hand painted with a bible verse on it by a family friend.

I know what it is like to not have, and go without as a child.

I swore no matter what, my children would never experience going to bed hungry or not having the necessities they need.

My kids helped me make the dresses this July.

It makes us proud to be able to make some little girl feel like I did with my very special homemade dress.

Teaching our children to give is the best gift in paying it forward!

Jean Sigley

Jean Sigley

My name is Jean Sigley and I became involved with Alfie’s when my husband started going to the barbershop run by Eddie Barker who is on the board of Alfie’s.  Wayne came home and told me they were looking for sewing machines to send to third world countries to teach young women how to sew.  I had an almost brand new sewing machine that I had gotten to start sewing several years ago but just never seemed to have anything I wanted to sew.  When I took the sewing machine to drop off with Katie, I asked her to tell me about Alfie’s.  She explained the purpose was to sew dresses to cloth the young girls to show they were cared for so the sex trade industry would not pick them up off of the street.  That touched my heart and I got excited about doing something about it.  However, because I had just given my sewing machine away, I needed another one to get started!  My husband helped me by going on line and finding a new sewing machine for me.  I have a “purpose” now for sewing and I’m so thankful for God using me to help others.

I enjoy making the dress, so I can do something for others, this works good for me I’m home most of the time.

-Jackie Albritton

I enjoy sewing for the girls, I feel like I am sharing God’s love in a way that is very real. One day I hope to deliver some myself. That would be amazing!

JessAnn Randich

JessAnn Randich

We are happy to announce our first out of town volunteer, JessAnn Randich! JessAnn lives in Illinois and has a passion for helping.  “I am blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of Katie’s mission.  As a semi-retired teacher I have been searching for a way to be of service to others now that I have more free time. Sewing dresses for young girls is a perfect fit for me. Not only do I enjoy the “art” of sewing (something I have not had time for in 25 years) but the idea that these dresses will be worn and enjoyed by little girls across the world makes it all the more worthwhile.  I look forward to my sewing days, especially those spent with friends who are also excited about this mission. Thank you, Katie, for providing a vehicle for all of us to shine God’s love on these beautiful little girls!” Not only has she felt this call to be involved, but she is gathering a group of her friends to help sew as well!

Arden

Arden

alfies is happy to announce we have our 20th volunteer! We are so blessed. Our mission is possible because of our volunteers who are inspired to help! Welcome Arden! She is a senior at Flagler College in Saint Augustine Florida. She is studying Political Science and International Studies. She loves to craft, knit stitch and sew. She joined Alfies because she sees the importance of sharing God’s word with others not only through voice but also action and provision of their needs. Attending the Church of Eleven22 has brought her awareness of the organization and she is very excited to be involved!

Nancy Brown

Nancy Brown

My name is Nancy Brown and I live in Boise, Idaho.  I wanted to be of service in God’s kingdom some way, but had not found my “niche.”  I have sewn since I was a teenager and love it.  Due to back problems I could not sit long enough for any period of time so I gave it up about ten years ago.  I happy to say the Lord has healed my back enough to get me back into sitting!!  When I was visiting a wonderful friend, Jean Sigley in January of this year she was telling me about “Alfies” and showed me some of the dresses she had made.  That was all it took, I came home to Boise and went directly to the fabric shop and started sewing.  I am so blessed to have this in my life now and feel like I am being a service to the Lord.  Thank you Jean and “Alfies.”

IMG_8861After meeting Katie at a function, I knew that we  had to be involved with Alfies.
My youngest daughter has been talking about making pillow case dresses , for girls in other countries, for a few months. She has wanted to do it as a service project for a couple of years and we just didn’t know how to go about it. After hearing Alfies heartfelt mission for these girls in other countries, I knew that we wanted to do everything we could to help!
It has been amazing how many people I have personally met, who have offered to help!!  My daughter and her whole troop, of elementary to high school girls, from American Heritage Girls are taking to their sewing machines. Emily’s goal for the troop is 23 dresses and for herself 27 dresses for a grand total of 50 dresses.
Amazing how God brings people together to be his hands and feet.
Mary

Mary

My name is Mary and I am 13 years old. I started sewing with one of the ladies from my church when I was 12. Sewing is really fun and I enjoy doing it.  Mrs Jean offered for me and the lady I sew with to make dresses for young ladies in Panama. It was a wonderful opportunity to serve and do something I enjoy at the same time. When I finish a dress it brings me joy to know it will make a little girl in need happy. And to know it is  a dress that I made. I feel like I am getting to do mission work and serve God through sewing. I love seeing the pictures of the girls wearing the dresses. Their smiles are so beautiful.
